Macromolecular Coatings for Endotracheal Tubes Probed on An Ex Vivo Extubation Setup

چکیده
Abstract Endotracheal intubation is indispensable in modern healthcare but typically entails two complications for the treated patients: biofouling‐induced infections and friction‐associated damage to tissue. Coatings on endotracheal tubes (ETT) may mitigate those problems, they require a well‐defined testing method assess their functionality. Here, such setup presented, which allows conducting ex vivo extubation experiments reproducible manner. With this setup, different coating strategies that immobilize porcine gastric mucins ETT surface are compared. The results demonstrate covalent coatings generated from lab‐purified outperform other variants terms of ability decrease tissue damage, prevent lipid adsorption, reduce cell attachment. similar approach as presented here, it should also be possible evaluate macromolecular medical tubing systems cardiac urinary catheters endoscopes.

Resistance of endotracheal tubes measured after extubation in ICU patients
Methods The study was performed over patients intubated for at least 1 day in our ICU. Once the patient was extubated, tube was immediately stored in a plastic bag at room temperature and kept in a safe place until bench assessment. This was performed maximal 24 hours after extubation as follows. The endotracheal tube was attached to a filter (Hygrobac) and both were set to ASL 5000 active serv...

The aim of this study was to establish predictors for successfully planned extubation, which can be followed by medical personnel. The patients who were admitted to the adult intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital and met the following criteria between January 2005 and December 2014 were collected retrospectively: intubation > 48 hours; and candidate for extubation. The patient characterist...

A 73-yr-old male with atrial fibrillation presented for pulmonary vein mapping and isolation. Following uneventful tracheal intubation, femoral vein catheters and a 7-Fr right internal jugular vein (IJV) catheter were placed with ultrasound guidance. After the seven-hour procedure, a large right neck hematoma was apparent. Ultrasound examination showed no compromise of the IJV or carotid artery...
